ABSTRACT
Because of the highly explosive nature of the gasoline fumes that are common in and around empty petroleum storage tanks, tank cleaning and removal should be performed only by specialized firms familiar with standard industry practices and safety procedures. As described below, some firms do the whole job of tank closure while others do only part; the tank owner must decide how he or she wishes to contract and coordinate the parties involved.
