ABSTRACT

The production of liquid fuels from nonpetroleum sources is not new. For example, the production of liquid fuels from coal has received considerable attention, since the concept does represent alternate pathways to liquid fuels (Figure 3.1) (Cusumano et al., 1978; Anderson and Tillman, 1979; Whitehurst et al., 1980; Speight, 1994 and references cited therein).
