ABSTRACT
Oil shale is, in the simplest sense, a rock, and it does not contain any oil! In more detailed terms, oil shale is a finetextured sedimentary rock that contains organic matter from which oil can be liberated by heating (Russell, 1980; Allred, 1982; Yen, 1976; Scouten, 1990).
