ABSTRACT
The Ciba-Geigy plant in Newport, Delaware, is using British Standard 7750 as a guide to prepare for ISO 14000 (Fairley and Roberts 1995). The status of Austria's Fachverband der Chemischen Industrie Österreichs (FCIO; Vienna) is the most rigorous and struc tured program (Ibid). The FCIO requires third-party independent verification of a company before they can use the FCIO "Care" logo. Care was pioneered in Europe by the UK's Chemical Industries Association (CIA; London) back in 1989. Care was started by FCIO in 1993 and to date, fewer than 20 of the 50 member companies that have applied have been granted the logo.
