children being <1 yr o f age. • M ortality is the same regardless o f w hether the arrest occurs in the prehospital or

hospital setting. • In adults, cardiac arrest usually is the result o f underlying cardiac disease. In con­

trast, children usually develop cardiac arrest secondary to respiratory arrest and shock syndromes.
