ABSTRACT
T h e practice o f surgical oncology will utilize m ore im age-guided procedures in the 2 1 st century. Radiofrequency, cryo-, or laser ablation treatm ents o f breast can cers will becom e the “norm ”, particularly for nonpalpable, early staged cancers. These ablative techniques will be expanded beyond their current lim ited applications (i.e., liver metastasis, prostate cancer) to an ever-increasing num ber o f sites. U ltrasound will be the prim ary technology used to guide these treatm ent procedures.
