ABSTRACT
Melanoma is a malignancy of melanocytes. Melanocytes originate from neural crest cells; therefore, melanoma can occur anywhere neural crest cells migrate in the embryo. Most commonly primary melanoma occurs in the skin. The eye and mucous membranes are less common but well described areas primary melanomas can occur.
