ABSTRACT

N OSTRIN is a prototypic PCH/F-BAR protein with an N-terminal F-BAR domain mediating membrane association and a C-terminal SH3 domain representing a docking platform for various proteins. Human NOSTRIN has recently been shown to function as an adaptor protein in caveolar trafficking of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS). An N-terminally shortened variant o f the protein, referred to as NOSTRINß, mainly localizes to the cell nucleus and may play a role in gene regulation. Both NOSTRIN variants are up-regulated under certain (pathological) conditions, which may contribute to the progression o f the respec tive diseases.
