ABSTRACT

Biocatalysts produce substances that are often advantageous compared to traditional methods. They also help synthesize new compounds. To achieve increased or novel production, mutant organisms, tailored enzymes as well as novel combinations o f enzymes in reactors are being used and the sphere application o f enzymes is expanding. The complex biosynthesis, once mainly utilized only by biopharmaceuticals, has now been embraced by food, textile and leather industries and in environmental pollution control. The new and environmentally friendly ways o f manufacture are made possible by enzymatic conversion processes. Increased understanding o f the functional interaction o f proteins and protein-protein network is expected to alter in vitro biosynthesis in reactors.
