ABSTRACT

The prognosis is poor (median survival 12 to 14 months), usually showing an in itial response to chemotherapy followed by an inevitable relapse.

Most of the previous discussion of AM L refers to the BM aspirate findings because they are the mainstay of AM L diagnosis and classification. A few words should be said about two special circumstances: when an adequate BM aspirate sample is not available and when the BM biopsy is hypocellular.
