A general rule of thumb is that low-grade lymphomas are higher-stage at the time of diagnosis and, therefore, are present in the BM more frequently than high-grade lymphomas at initial staging.

Patterns of Lymphoma Involvement in the BM Biopsy There is a great deal o f overlap of the architectural patterns of involvement

of the BM biopsy by different kinds of lymphoma, but the pattern can still provide important clues. The most well known is the paratrabecular nodules of centrocytes w ith variable numbers of intermixed centroblasts seen with fol­ licular lymphoma (FL). This pattern, however, like all others, is not specific. The vocabulary of lymphoma architecture in the BM is given in Table 11.2.
