ABSTRACT

Is the Bleeding Due to Factor Deficiencies or Platelet Defects? Patients with bleeding due to platelet defects (and von Willebrand disease) will

manifest mainly mucocutaneous bleeding. They will have excessive bruising, gingi val bleeding, and frequent nose bleeds. Patients with coagulation factor deficiencies will tend to have muscle and joint bleeds. Both groups of patients will bleed exces sively from injuries and at the time of surgery.
