ABSTRACT

A long history of studies demonstrate the capacity of the immune system to develop specific reactivity against antigens foreign to the host, like viral and bacterial antigens. During the last decade it is becoming more and more apparent that an immune re sponse can also be mounted against tumor-associated antigens. The molecular identification of several tumor antigens has boosted research to address means by which long lasting T cellmediated immunity against tumors can be induced. In this Chapter, we focus on the identifi cation of the tumor-associated antigens gplOO and G250 and recent developments in the application of dendritic cell-based vaccines.
