ABSTRACT
Currendy, most plastic surgeons prefer to perform prosthetic reconstruction as a two-stage technique. Stage one is the placement of the tissue expander and stage two is the removal o f the tissue expander and exchange with a permanent implant. At the time of publication, only saline-filled implants are available to the general plastic surgeon. However, silicone gel implants are available to plastic surgeons involved in clinical trials for breast reconstruction.
