ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will focus on the relationship between the immune system and NM D. We will discuss how molecules essential for immune function-immunoglobulin (Ig) andT-cell receptor (TCR) transcripts-are frequent targets of NM D and why this may be crucial for the survival of В andT lymphocytes. We will also detail discoveries about the nature of the NM D mechanism that acts on Ig and TCR transcripts and how this mechanism appears to be different from the one that acts on most other transcripts. We will also detail other immune system transcripts that may be targeted for destruction by NM D. Lasdy, we will discuss the possible physiological relevance of NM D to the immune system.
