ABSTRACT
Nucleic acids are not unique to pathogens therefore our immune system must exert tight and sophisticated control on nucleic acid sensing pathways to ensure that there is not inappropriate sensing of host nucleic acids. The ability to distinguish between pathogenic and self-nucleic acids is therefore central to human health.
