ABSTRACT
Hyperkeratosis implies increased thickening of the stratum corneum. The nor mal appearance of this layer is the “basket weave” appearance, or layered keratin that is loosely attached. In hyperkeratosis the stratum corneum usually appears solid, in addition to thick. Synonym: Orthokeratosis.
