ABSTRACT

Advances in recombinant DNA technology e.g., Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Real Time PCR (RT-PCR), have contributed enormously to the area, as well as improved diagnostic methods, many developed as a result of use of monoclonal antibody technology (e.g., agglutination tests, ELIS As). Many challenges remain e.g., complete understanding of the Immune System, virus-host interactions, but new technologies are being constantly developed, which will contribute to in creased understanding of how viruses can manipulate their host cells.
