ABSTRACT

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease which means that body’s immune systems of diabetic patients misrecognize the @ cells, in the islets of Langerhans, as foreign bodies and progressively destroy them with the help of CD4 and C D 8 killer T cells and by macrophages infiltrating the pancreatic islet cells. The destruction of these insulin producing systems naturally significantly reduces or stops the insulin production and hence the Type 1 diabetic patients from very beginning become dependent on insulin to be administered in order to control diabetes.
