ABSTRACT

Just the thought of speaking in front of a group can be very unnerving for some, even if it is just getting up in front of a small group. Whether making a presentation or delivering a training class, there are a number of techniques that can be used to enhance or in some cases salvage your presentation. Sev eral years ago, I came across an interesting fact that I feel is still valid, with the exception of the fear of technology. The ten worst Human Fears (in the U.S.) reported in “The Book Of Lists” are as follows:

1. Speaking before a group 2. Heights 3. Insects and bugs 4. Financial problems 5. Deepwater 6. Sickness 7. Death 8. Flying 9. Loneliness 10. Dogs With the addition of fear of technology, this list is probably fairly accu

rate. There is just something about speaking in front of a group that people either love or disdain; but for most of us, there is really not a lot of choice. We are in an information age where communication is critical to the success of any organization as well as our own.
