ABSTRACT
The first few moves of any game establish the connective framework upon which the rest of the game is based. Any mistake at this stage can be catastrophic. Players must strive to make moves that not only threaten to directly form strong connections, but also provide potential for improving their position later in the game. Usually both players will try to create a loosely defined connection between their edges that solidifies as the game progresses.
