ABSTRACT
If there is one type of sample size calculation on which I have concentrated a lot of research energies it has been the calculation of sample sizes for ordinal data. However, a realisation dawned when first I gave a sample size course I wrote. I had put together a detailed slide presentation and long practical but noticed a stirring in the class when they became aware that after the lecture, which I had just given, they were now expected to work on the practical.
