ABSTRACT

The purpose of this text is to empower the reader to take in information provided in some format (where that format is not customizable or alterable by the user), do something with the information that is taken in (calculations, formatting, sorting, etc.), and then create a Worksheet, report, or file that contains the information in a format desired by the end user. The middle portion of this statement is the bulk of what this text is dedicated to, performing automated operations on information contained within data files or Worksheets. Such operations can be something as simple as formatting changes, or as complex as curve fitting. The first and last statements within the purpose just stated, taking data in to have an operation performed on it, and writing the data out after the given operations have been performed on it, are covered only in this chapter. It is here that the reader will learn how to bring data into Excel using a manual file-loading dialog box, or by using an algorithm to load all the files present in a certain location (folder) that have certain characteristics. It is also within this section that the reader will learn how to write data out in a format that will be of use to their end user or customer.
