ABSTRACT

All of the theories of truth appear to depend on how the peoples use language. In turn, theories of language depend on the concept of meaning. But then theories of meaning depend on truth, as they are an attempt to convey how things actually (truthfully) are. Consciousness is the common factor in the relationship between truth, language and meaning. It is through consciousness that the peoples think, and thinking is how they arrive at concepts such as meaning, truth and language. Health practice is riddled with different groups of practitioners making relative truth claims about the benefits of their perspectives and practice. Beck and Cowan refer to a similar form of development, which they describe as a helical spiral, wherein the peoples loop round continuously, each loop returning to the beginning, yet also conferring another level of development and complexity.
