ABSTRACT

Constipation is a very uncomfortable condition that affects many people, but especially those suffering from life-limiting illnesses. Constipation is not so much about the frequency or infrequency of having a bowel movement, but more about the diffi culty incurred in passing that motion. It is possible for a patient to have their bowels open every day and still be constipated if the stools are hard and diffi cult to pass. So long as the bowels move regularly and without discomfort, it doesn’t matter if the patient only has a bowel movement once every two or three days.
