Blistering diseases book
Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is a subepidermal, autoimmune blistering skin disease which occurs predominantly in middle-aged or elderly individuals. Blistering is caused by antibodies directed against proteins involved in adhesion of epidermis to underlying dermis (BP antigen 180 and BP antigen 230). Severe itching or the development of blisters usually precipitates an acute presentation.
