ABSTRACT
Auspitz learned the fundamentals of pathology from Carl Wedl in Vienna and soon excelled his master in the study of the pathologic changes associated with skin diseases. He coined the terms acanthoma, acantholysis, and parakeratosis and published a classic account of the anatomy of the dermalepidermal junction and important studies on the infiltrates of syphilis, lupus vulgaris and scrofula. His brain was wired in that special way that allows a really fine histopathologist to convert a static two dimensional tissue section into an animated three dimensional panorama that enables him understand and communicate to others the essential message that lesional changes are works in progress.
