ABSTRACT
It often seems as if the NHS is in a continuous state of change. New policy documents and reorganisations are always with us, constantly changing the organisational structures that deliver the service. It is beyond the scope of this book to detail all the relevant policy documents, but in particular, the following have emphasised the role of information technology in the modern National Health Service. It is these policies that the National Programme for IT is expected to support.
