ABSTRACT
Ultrasound has become a part of routine clinical practice. However, it must be remembered that it should only complement rather than replace clinical practice. A thorough medical history and clinical examination such as abdominal palpation and vaginal examination where appropriate, will ensure appropriate interpretation of the gynaecological ultrasound scan (USS). It should not be the only modality whereby referral to secondary care is made.
