ABSTRACT
The average menopausal age in the UK is 52 years, at which point a woman’s ovaries stop producing oestrogen. It is the lack of oestrogen that causes vaginal dryness. Vaginal dryness can affect over half of postmenopausal women aged between 51–60 years. If a woman experiences menopause under the age of 40 years it is known as premature menopause. 3 This could be due to ovarian failure or post hysterectomy.
