Chapter 3 METHODS OF THE INVESTIGATION OF FRACTURE AND CALCULATION OF STRENGTH OF POLYMERS

3.1. Statistical Treatment of Experimental Results Investigation of lifetime and strength of solids under stress

presents an ever-growing interest. These studies allow one to gain an important information concerning the nature and mechanisms of fracture processes [4, 48]. Analysis of the statistical lifetime or strength distribution of solids makes it possible to draw the conclusions concerning the phenomena taking place in the loaded materials. In this connection, a correct construction of distribution function requires correct experiments with the sufficient number of tests and further statistical treatment, and only this approach allows one to obtain a reliable information concerning the fracture processes taking place in loaded bodies [18, 48, 120].
