ABSTRACT

Any effort for qualifying a company’s release planning process starts with an understanding of the impact of qualified product release planning in the context of the organization. The amount of investment into release planning needs to be adjusted according to project and organizational needs. Release planning is an ongoing process that includes permanent adjustment to change. Release planning implies constant demand for re-planning. Planning can only be done if objectives and constraints are known and stated properly. The main quality criteria of the established planning process are the acceptance of its results and its impact on product development. Decisions formerly made related to stakeholders, resources and the number as well as the content of the selected planning objectives need to be evaluated. As part of an overall learning and improvement cycle, data generated from various planning rounds are packaged for reuse.
