ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a rigorous, optimization-based method for re-planning. The re-planning problem is based on different types of information related to the existing plan, the change requests, and the resource capacities and time interval of the release under investigation. Different measures could be considered to decide at which point in time there is enough reason for re-planning. One is the number of new features that have arrived. Another one is the attractiveness of the features themselves, compared to the feature being implemented according to the original plan. The systematic re-planning method H2W is aimed at qualifying the decision-making process to finally offer the most attractive features, in consideration of the most arrived feature requests or changed data. The new features arrived and considered for the re-planning should be evaluated by stakeholders in terms of the stated planning criteria. Their effort estimation is another pre-requisite for the method.
