ABSTRACT

Events are all incidents (regardless of reasons) when equipment is not available to produce parts at specified conditions when scheduled, or is not capable of producing parts or perform scheduled operations at specified conditions. Examples of “events” are

Machine failure (unscheduled) ◾ Machine process failure (unscheduled) ◾

Machine faults (unscheduled) ◾ Component failures (unscheduled) ◾ Stops for breaks and lunch (scheduled) ◾ Quality checks (scheduled or unscheduled) ◾ Team meetings (scheduled) ◾

Any time that a machine stops during scheduled production, for any reason, it is considered an event. That is measured by the mean time between events (MTBE). Most organizations utilize events to calculate equipment plant floor performance. The event is generated due to the use of electronic monitoring devices on the machine. These data collection sources can only identify whether the equipment is on or off.
