ABSTRACT

SixSigma-R-Us’s Ben Black, the Master Black Belt, was excited. Leading his first full-scale client implementation with SSRU, Ben looked forward to meeting the executive team and getting started. Ben was less certain. He had emphasized the importance of a critical mass of Belts and shared some characteristics that TryinHard Marine should consider in selecting these important and critical people. Two conversations in the working session were noteworthy. The first involved project selection. Ben had provided a list of possible project criteria. The second confrontational conversation surfaced during the Black Belt selection discussion. Ben shared the requirements: one week of training per month for five months for a total of 200 hours of training per person, plus working on a project.
