ABSTRACT

Mark Moore left the staff meeting with more questions than answers. John had clearly gotten his attention, as much by the change in his usual way of handling these kinds of business improvement initiatives as by the content of his message. The concept of learning from the Total Quality Management (TQM) effort hit close to home. Mark had been responsible for selecting the consultancy that worked with TryinHard Marine on TQM implementation. John was pleasantly surprised when Mark entered his office and asked for his input on the Six Sigma consulting decision. In the past, Mark would have taken the ball and run with it, sure that as vice president of quality, no one else could possibly have an informed opinion on anything having to do with the subject.
