ABSTRACT

Emergency responders of all types have always had di¢cult jobs, often completed under trying, fast-moving circumstances and with the potential for the loss of the lives or property of the citizens they have sworn to protect. e response community has faithfully carried out these di¢cult assignments with compassion, professionalism, and a sense of pride. eir duties are constantly changing and new challenges are presented on a regular basis. Responders must maintain advanced levels of training, and must be ready to accept and manage new challenges and training courses as they arise. e positions remain the same, titles and overall responsibilities remain unchanged, but there are subtle nuances of discipline that each responder must address. If a study of emergency response was to be conducted and the roles, duties, and equipment issued and utilized were cataloged, the study would reveal signi¤- cant changes from generation to generation in each ¤eld of response.
