ABSTRACT

This work aimed at investigating the process of how the Brazilian pilots adapted themselves to the updated aircraft F-5EM, from the cognitive ergonomics point of view, once this airplane had adopted the glass cockpit concept in its cabin, among others modification suffered. The motivation factor of this research was the identification in the civil aviation that this concept of cockpit, with elevate level of automation and computer resource, had changed the pilot work nature, with a lot of benefits but bringing, also, some issues related to safety, with the pilots having difficult to deal with the new technology. However, the amount of information to be processed and the mental workload added, as the consequence of the installed system, with its new functionalities, imposed a challenge to the pilots, which had been trying to go through by a great amount of study and an intensive use of the simulator.
