ABSTRACT

Maxillo Facial Surgery procedures are often complex and difficult to train for novice surgeons. Traditional teaching methods include supervised practical training during real surgeries. The trainee's progression is monitored by a senior surgeon who leads the procedure and progressively involves the trainee in the surgery. With such a method, the acquisition of surgery skills is long and depends on the cases the trainee is confronted to. In order to improve training efficiency, we propose to design and use a new skills training VR system composed of a multimodal platform and dedicated training exercises. The aim of this paper is to introduce this system and its main components.
