ABSTRACT

Pictorial symbols are widely used to convey warning messages. Despite various advantages of using pictorial symbols, sh1dies have reported that people from different cultures may not comprehend the meaning of a pictorial in the same manner. In this work, two culturally different groups were recruited to perform a pictorial symbol design and evaluation. Mixed-methods design was conducted to identify the similarities and differences of pictorial symbol design and evaluation. Practical implications of the results are discussed.
