ABSTRACT
Cultural training typically focuses on understanding culture specific information. In contrast, the goal of the present research was to identify a generalizable understanding of culture that will improve individuals' functioning upon entering any novel culture. The overall objective was to build on previous research and identify the core elements of a schema for cultural understanding. The core content of a schema for cultural understanding relevant to Soldiers was identified as being pertinent to their mission context. However, it is multileveled and interconnected, thus exhibiting features of expert schemas. Items representing core culture schema content and the structural relationships between these items were identified .
