ABSTRACT

The respective European Union Council Directive 96/82/EC, so-called Seveso II Directive, laid down the obligation to set up the safety management system in establishments or installations where the dangerous chemical substances are present in the specific amount. Major accident prevention policy and safety management system is the document prepared by the operator and the purpose of that is to decrease risk by the systemic approach to the process safety management. The systemic approach is highly effective preventive tool for the decreasing of the undesired event probability and minimization of the undesired impacts that could arise. This analysis focuses on the process safety management systems and their possible use in the prevention of the major accidents in the integrated way.
