ABSTRACT

An OHSMS uses a cyclic sequence of phases, planning, implementation, monitoring and reassessment of the system. This is a dynamic process undergoing continuous development and improvement. The system has to reach the intended aims in terms of commitment and involvement of all corporate functions. The systems management presents characteristics fully in accordance with the methods used in ergonomics but also in the BBS. For example, it must adapt to the specific characteristics of the organisation, improving the ability to adjust to the evolution of the regulations and norms of good techniques and including the workers and their representatives and the continuous improvement of the cycle. Once the potential of both approaches (ergonomics and BBS) has been assessed, the differences which characterise them, as well as the possible common points which can make them complementary and collaborative in attaining the same goal, it is possible to integrate them and systematise them in a process of the formulation of a specific OHSMS.
