ABSTRACT

Another type of search for θ13 involves using muon neutrino beams from an accelerator and looking for the appearance of electron neutrinos. is is being carried out using a new accelerator in Japan sending a beam to the SuperKamiokande detector 300 miles away. (Because the energy of the beam is 200 times as great as that of reactor neutrinos, the oscillation length is 200 times longer.) A similar experiment called NOVA is being planned; it will send a beam from Fermilab near Chicago to a new detector in Minnesota.
