ABSTRACT

New and growing organizations are generally well rewarded by the market in the form of higher stakeholder confidence and share prices when projects are delivered on budget and on schedule. Consequently, organizations place huge emphasis on getting it right the first time and at the publicly disclosed price for completion of projects. Failure to get it right the first time results in rework, cost increases, schedule changes, and severe penalties from shareholders and other stakeholders. For the large organization with deep pockets, much of the cost increase in the short term can be funded from its cash flows and is eventually passed on to the shareholders in the form of reduced earnings and smaller shareholder value.
