Retention Modelsfor Ions in HPLC book
Ions constitute a common and important class of solutes in chromatography. Several different chromatographic techniques are used with many types of stationary and mobile phases. The purpose of this chapter to outline some general theoretical principles that are important for the understanding of the retention properties of ions. It is shown how the principles are applied to reversed-phase chromatography of ions, ion-pair chromatography, and ion exchange chromatography of small ions. Finally, the implications for ion exchange chromatography of proteins are discussed. For a more detailed review of the different theoretical aspects of the chromatography of ions, see Ref. .
