ABSTRACT
The assessment of environmental risks can be considered an important challenge for scientific research. Many aspects related to this topic need to be studied in more detail: the attempts to anticipate the risks (prevention rather than remedy), and therefore to forecast them, to assess the relationships between causes and effects, to balance the benefits with the costs associated to the control of risks.
