ABSTRACT
The regulation of emissions from light-duty motor vehicles has been described in Chapter 8. As indicated in that discussion, emission standards have become increasingly more stringent. Continued changes in regulatory requirements have necessitated the development and improvement of emission control technologies. Indeed, motor vehicle emissions standards mandated under the 1970 Amendments to the CAA were intended to “force” the development of new control technology to achieve standards.
