ABSTRACT

Investigation of the world based on nanotechnology generates new tools for application in medical practice, resulting in new understanding of health and disease. The new field of nanoscience is essentially a new way of looking at science and technology, with the perspectives of new possibilities opened by vastly more powerful tools for examination and manipulation of matter on the submicron scale. Many nanoscale technology and science developments were the result of biological experiments, and nanotechnology has always been readily applied to the investigation of biological phenomena. There are numerous resources available in print and on the internet that chart the milestones of development of nanotechnology and nanomedicine. Advances in technology led to new tools, which applied in the life sciences resulted in advances in medical understanding and practice. A number of historical developments presage and underpin the modern development of nanotechnology and nanomedicine. The immune system plays an important role in medical nanotechnology as well as biotechnology.
