ABSTRACT

While extracting white material from the feet, occasionally a small, flat, hard piece of keratinized epithelium was removed from beneath the epidermis. On the hunch that perhaps the sub-epidermal plates of keratinized epithelium were recruited from the plantar surface of the feet, both feet were colored green with a permanent magic marker. The subject was subsequently surveyed for the color green, the theory being that the green epithelium would be recruited by the microorganism and its movements tracked by a trail of green color. Initially, the hypothesis was that the ectopic green color would be found close to the feet. It was surprising, then, to discover green material emerging from the eyes (see Figures 7.6, 8.2, 8.3, 12.1 and 12.2).
